MENA Newswire News Desk: Over 1,500 residents in southern South Korea were evacuated after heavy overnight rains caused widespread flooding and landslides across several provinces, authorities reported Sunday. The floods submerged roads, homes, and public buildings, leading to significant damage across the affected areas. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heavy rain warnings were issued for the southern Gyeongsang region, as well as parts of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeolla provinces. No casualties have been reported at this time, but damage to property and infrastructure is extensive.

Floodwaters affected 78 sections of public roads, with some roads being completely submerged, while others experienced landslides and erosion. Retaining walls in several areas collapsed, exacerbating the impact of the flooding. In total, more than 170 homes were flooded, along with three factories, one hospital, and over 4,000 hectares of agricultural land. Emergency services have been deployed across the affected regions, working around the clock to clear debris and rescue stranded individuals.

Officials continue to warn residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate and move to higher ground, as weather forecasts predict more rain in the coming days. Temporary shelters have been established to accommodate the displaced. This event marks one of the most severe floods in recent memory, raising concerns about climate-related natural disasters that are becoming increasingly frequent across South Korea.
